Last night in Samarkand

After a short afternoon of playing and relaxing we want to end our stay on Samarkand on a high by going out for dinner once again. So we go to Emirhan, a restaurant overlooking the Registan complex for a sunset dinner. Once we get to the upper terrace we grab the last table with an unhindered view. Sadly nights are still cold at this time of the year, so as we sit down and the wind is blowing we wrap ourselves in the provided blankets for some comfort.

There is a lot of staff walking around but you have to be assertive to get their attention, we ask for some menus and are pleasantly surprised that they have vegan dishes on the menu. We order tea to keep us warm and try to enjoy the sunset as much as possible considering the cold.

Service picks up and we get our food in 15 minutes. The food is good and it’s gone within minutes. We promised Cleo an ice cream today, but since the sun has completely set, it’s time to move and stop sitting still. We’ll find some ice cream elsewhere.

We take some family pictures from the viewing platform and find a ice cream shop nearby. Cleo chooses vanilla with smarties and can’t stop talking about her ice cream as we walk home. Everyone’s schedule is adjusted to Uzbekistan time, so we get a full night rest.

We have an almost empty schedule today, only Timur’s mausoleum and catching a night train. We sleep until 7.30, Tim goes for a last walk around the Registan to get some 360 photos since we forgot them earlier.

As Tim round the complex he comes to an unguarded gate he knows to be open from previous excursions. He sneaks in to get some up close 360 photos of the fabulous domes and three madrassas. After taking some last photos it’s time for breakfast at home.
