Spain is one of the more diverse tourist destinations in Europe. Millions go there to simply lie on one of its many beautiful beaches. But there is much more to Spain then just its beaches. The Pyrenees and the Picos in the north are great hiking and other outdoor sports locations all year round. In the northwest, you can find the remains of Spain’s Visigoth past with stunning little churches who survived the Muslim onslaught. Go to the south to see the remains of the oriental splendour left behind by those conquerors in places like Granada, Sevilla and Cordoba. Visit Merida for a look further in the past to the Roman heritage left in Spain. If you want to see some top-notch museums, go to the capital of Madrid. And if you want to visit a country inside a country go to the capital of Catalunya, Barcelona with its own distinct atmosphere and of course the architecture of Gaudi.
Besides the cities of Madrid and Barcelona, Spain is a relatively inexpensive country, great food can be bought on a budget, attractions are reasonably priced, and accommodation is easy to find. Best time of the year is May or October when the weather is not too hot unless you are into that of course.
