It’s 8:30 when Tim wakes us up; breakfast is ready. What a life! We pack our bags and clean our aparthotel. We had an excellent stay, but it’s time to leave now, we’re heading to Danyang, another scenic environment on the Korean country and river side.
We try another big mall for a baby car seat, but without luck again. Olga does some simple groceries (cashew nuts, diapers, apples, tomato’s and bread) for €40 (and we can confirm that the ageing population is real as the incontinence department is ten times greater than the diaper department), and we want to visit a temple and fish market, the final two sites of Sokcho. But as it’s raining and all parking lots are full, we skip both sites and head South instead.

It’s a really rainy day and although we feel lucky that we had such nice weather yesterday, for our beautiful hike, the rainy clouds and the mountains also make some nice views passing by our car window.

We have a break at Gangneung Unification Park, with a museum about the situation with North Korea. We also came to see the submarine from 1996 when North Koreans abandoned their grounded submarine, and hid within the city resulting in 49 day long manhunt for the belligerents. Unfortunately, the site is under construction and we cannot visit it.
As so many planned attractions don’t go as planned, we visit the Haslla Art World museum we pass by. It’s a kind of experience museum with mirrors, corridors to pass through, sculptures to interact with and a huge sculpture garden where we get lost and Tim has to call Olga when he’s back at the car, while Olga and kids are still strolling through the garden in the rain.
Reunited we have still a 3-hour ride in front of us, so we skip the planned restaurant lunch and buy some sushi in the 7Eleven supermarket next to the boat on a cliff hotel. It’s a really long 3 hours. We stop again to rest again and play “I spy with my little eye” (ik zie ik zie wat jij niet ziet) and Cleo even navigates Tim during the final miles to our new Korean guesthouse.

After we have checked in, we go out to find a restaurant, we stop at the first one we see. We ask the waiter for suggestions and get a nice meal for the four of us. Zeno and Cleo get some marbles to play with as the staff has fun with the kids. We thank them and go to our guesthouse and let the children have a slumber party Korean Style on a traditional kimchi matrass.
